Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

Picture
Do you know that how you see Jesus determines what you receive from Him? If you see Jesus as your healer, you will receive healing. If you see Jesus as your refuge and fortress, you will receive protection.

The people of Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown, saw Jesus in the natural. They said of Him, “Is this not the carpenter’s son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? And His sisters, are they not all with us?” (Matthew 13:55–56) They saw Jesus in the natural. They did not see Him as God in the flesh. As a result, He could not do many mighty works there. (Matthew 13:58)

Today, many people, including some philosophers, see Jesus as a good person who led an exemplary life. They feel that if all of us could live our lives like Him, the world would be a better place. They don’t see Jesus as the bread of God who came from heaven to give life to the world. (John 6:33) They don’t see Him as the one who came to give them living water, so that they would never thirst again. (John 4:14) They don’t see Him as the Lamb of God, who took away the sin of the world. (John 1:29) They don’t receive from Him what they need because they don’t esteem Him rightly.

Jesus did not come just to set a good example for man to follow. He came to be our Redeemer. (Galatians 3:13) He came to be our righteousness. (1 Corinthians 1:30) He came to be our shepherd, so that we will not lack anything. (Psalm 23:1)

Jesus asked His disciples once, “But who do you say that I am?” How you answer this question depends on how you see Jesus. And how you see Jesus will determine how and what you receive from Him. So see Him as your God, as everything He claims to be in His Word, and He will do mighty works in your life!

Mark 8:29
But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.

Christ Sometimes Delays His Help

Songs of Solomon 5:6
I called upon him, but he gave me no answer

The Lord, when He has given great faith, has been known to try it by long delay-ing. He has suffered His servants’ voices to echo in their ears; they have knocked at the golden gate, but it has remained unmovable, as though it were rusted upon its hinges. Like Jeremiah, they have cried, “You have covered yourself with a cloud, that our prayer should not pass through.” Thus have true saints continued long in patient waiting without reply, not because their prayers were not fervent, nor because they were unaccepted, but because it so pleased Him who is a Sovereign, and who gives according to His own wisdom. If it pleases Him to allow our patience exercise itself.

Be assured that no prayer is lost. Praying breath was never spent in vain, unanswered or unnoticed by God, and some things that we count refusals or denials are simply delays. We must not allow Satan to shake our confidence in the God of truth by pointing to our unanswered prayers.

Unanswered petitions are not unheard. There is a registry in the court of heaven where every prayer is recorded. The Lord has a bottle in which the costly tears of sacred grief are stored and a book in which your holy groanings are numbered. (Psalm:56:8). Your Lord's time will be better than your own. He will answer you to make you put away the sackcloth and ashes of long waiting. He will clothe you with the scarlet and fine linen of your heart's desire.

- Writing of Charles H. Spurgeon

Jesus, the Great I Am

We have all heard in song lyrics "... all we need is love", "...everyone needs a friend." However, is love easy to find in this selfish world where many people just think about themselves? And do you have a friend that you can truly rely on, tell all your secrets to and will always be there for you?

Jesus is the Great I Am. Whatever you need, whether it is love, a friend or someone you can trust, He Is.

In this corrupted world, love may seems like a myth. Worldly love easily fades away, years of friendship could end from a minor disagreement or mishaps. You might be loved today and unloved tomorrow; people may treat us well today, then treat us differently tomorrow. Nothing is for sure and nothing is eternal. True love, a true and special friend can only be found in Jesus. He is the Great I Am.

Maintain a daily fellowship with Jesus in prayers and praises unto Him. By doing so, we will fill the void that only God could fill within every soul. His peace will assure us of true acceptance and friendship whilst His love will complete us, leaving us not wanting.

John 8:24 ... for unless you believe that I am, you will die in your sins.
John 8:28 ... then you will know that I am...

Is there hope in you?

Sometimes you may find some people around you who are living without hope. They may smile but the fire in their eyes are no longer there, they may talk but the music of their voice have long been silenced. Hope is no longer within and they continue through life through cycles of mundane activities and hopelessness.

It doesn’t have to be that way for followers of Christ. We can hold unswervingly to the hope we profess for the God who promise is faithful (Hebrew 10:23). Hope is not a luck neither it is a fleeting feeling, it is a confidence knowing that God will do what He said.

David has every reason to lose hope with God. After he received the promise of being Israel’s next king, he spent seven years in waiting; hiding in caves and fleeing from King Saul who tried to hunt for David’s life. His friends were killed and his family were taken captive yet amidst all that, David was able to say, “My hope is in You (Psalm 39:7).

What a supernatural life David led just because his confidence was in His Sovereign God. It kept him focused, it kept his mind above all circumstance and it kept him going. No human strength could summon such perseverance, courage and boldness, only the Spirit of God is able to turn our natural ability to a supernatural one. Is there hope in you?

My God promises to supply all your needs and wants. Will you hope in His words?

Psalm 39: 7 NLT
And now, Lord what do I wait for? My hope is in You

Making Room for God

Have you ever tried to pour water into a cup that was already full? You might fit a couple more drops before the cup starts to overflow.

It's so often that we treat our lives like a cup, we try our best to fill it to the brim with friends, fun, career, travel and so on. And when it's full, we just try to fit some more! We multi-task on our mobile devices, we have lists things to do in our head, and we rush around getting them done...

At times we find that we need to squeeze the last few drops of God into our already full cups. But God has created our individual cups with eternity in mind. He had created us to first contain Him. As we fill up with Him, all worries and anxieties are put into their place. No longer are our lives being dictated by temporary stuff to do. No longer do we do things in our own strength. Our lives come into alignment with God's will. And that's when we begin to see God's miraculous work in our lives!

‭Acts‬ ‭17‬:‭28
For in him we live and move and have our being.

Divine helper during stormy days

I was traveling home on a rainy stormy afternoon and at the traffic light, all of a sudden I noticed how the wipers on all the cars were working so frantically to help the driver have clear vision to navigate their ways. I have never really pay attention to car wipers before but for some reason I sat there staring at all these cars of different colours and size all working their wipers frantic to help them clear their visions from the pouring rain.

It then dawned on me that in fair weather I never pay attention to these important pieces of car equipment such as car windscreen wipers or fog light that save lives and also prevent a lot unnecessary misery we can face when we are driving through stormy weathers.

I am also reminded that I acted the same way in my spiritual journey. In fair weather I sometimes forget my Helper but when the stormy days arrive and I can’t see clearly to navigate through that spiritual road, when my sight is weak, those are the days the Holy Spirit become that car wiper that ensures my safety to my destination. He worked so hard to make me realised what is ahead, to clear my vision to navigate through those dark days with peace and assurance. This scripture reminds me that in those stormy days. How precious it is that I have a Divine Helper.

Romans 8:26-27
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

Trust in the Lord

The city where I live is one of the most corrupted cities in the country and the level of delinquency is very high. I often meet with people who are either desperate or hopeless of the condition in the city. And even my fellow Christian is among those who have given up on this city.

It seems that it is almost impossible to find the righteousness in the world we are living in. It is during these moments that I’m reminded that I have no control at all over the things that are happening in my life and the circumstances that are occurring in my life. It is also the time for me to acknowledge I need to heed God’s guidance and trust on Him no matter the turmoil around us.

It is when we feel helpless and hopeless and that we have done everything just to avail to nothing, we are humbled and God will then whisper to our hearts once again and tell us to commit our way to the Lord; trust in him and He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun (Psalm 37:5).

We can choose to lean on our own strength and understanding, but God is faithful and His promises are true. It is only when we choose to trust in Him and His promises then life is changed.  It is when we claim His promises and live in obedience to Him then His joy will stay within us.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

A roaring lion

21/7/2014

Picture
A roaring lion stirs an image of a brave fearless creature who is not afraid to stand his grounds. His fearless thunderous roar sends his enemies running for cover and he has the ability to take down a much larger prey than himself. Though a lion may be smaller than its prey such as buffalo, he is undaunted by the apparent mismatched size and he is confident he will be victorious by taking firm steps running towards its prey.

We too can be confident as God’s children. We can have a lion-like boldness and face larger than life circumstances fearlessly, not let the any problems deceive us of its size and pursue the victory Christ promises us relentlessly. Proverbs 28:1 says – the wicked flee though no one pursues but the righteous are as bold as lion.

Yes, the righteous are bold as a lion because we are able to access the victory Jesus has given us through His death. Who is more powerful than our God? We are His children so let us approach His throne with lion-like boldness and face our circumstances fearlessly; undaunted by whatever size it may present itself to us.

Proverbs 28:1
The wicked flee though no one pursues but the righteous are as bold as lion.

Your Words Carry Power!

17/7/2014

In Bible times, a king’s word carried tremendous power. What he decreed would come to pass. It would be done. For example, if he said, “Raise the taxes,” the taxes would be raised.

Do you know that we are kings? The Bible tells us that Jesus has washed us from our sins with His blood and made us kings. (Revelation 1:5–6) And as kings in Christ, our words carry power too.

When we place our hands on a sick person and say, “Be healed,” the person is healed. When we lay hands on our children and say, “Be blessed,” our children are blessed. There is power in our words because they are the words of kings!

When I was a young Christian in my teens, I wanted to practice what I had learnt about the power of my words. There was this particular plant near my home and whenever I passed by it, I would say to it, “Be cursed in Jesus’ name!”

Many days passed. And I will never forget the day when I noticed that the leaves of the plant had turned brown! You may want to try this at home with your potted plants, but bless them instead!

Since our words carry power, can you imagine the harm we do when we say to our loved ones things like, “You are always so careless”, “You are good for nothing” or “You are so stupid”? We are cursing them!

The devil is happy when you use the power of your words against yourself and your loved ones. He wants to see you defeated. So instead of saying, “I am always short of money,” say, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1) Instead of saying, “I am so useless. I can’t do anything,” start saying, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

Beloved, remember that as a king, what you say will come to pass because where the word of a king is, there is power. So learn to say what God says about you in His Word and see His promises come to pass in your life!

Ecclesiastice 8:4
where the word of a king is, there is power…

Succeed and be better by refusing

16/7/2014

To succeed in life and be a better you:

(1) Refuse to settle for yesterday's accomplishments If what you did yesterday still looks big to you today, you probably haven't done enough today. Paul celebrated his accomplishments, but he focused on what God had for him in the future: '...Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on...' (Philippians 3:1314 NLT)

(2) Refuse to sit around waiting for tomorrow's opportunities Between the great things we can't do and the little things we won't do, the danger is that we'll do nothing. The world is blessed most by those who do things, not by those who merely talk about doing them.

(3) Refuse to let your beginning dictate your end. George Washington Carver spent his early years shuffled between foster homes until Maria Watkins, a washerwoman, found him asleep in her barn. She didn't just take him in; she took him to church and introduced him to Jesus. When he eventually left her home, he took with him the Bible she'd given him. Maria left her mark on his life, and George left his mark on the world. This father of modern agriculture was a friend to three presidents as well as Henry Ford and Gandhi. He is credited with over three hundred different inventions. And the remarkable thing is, despite his disadvantages, he never became bitter. Instead, he went into his lab every morning and prayed, 'Open my eyes that I may see.' How could God fail to bless someone with such an attitude?

Psalm 119:18
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.
