Building on Christ the Rock

We recently went camping last weekend. It was at a beautiful place close to the ocean. At night, gusty winds shook our tents and at times, we did wonder if our seemingly flimsy tents would blow away!

Life sometimes brings gusts of surprises that may throw us off course if we aren't anchored on the rock of Christ. In Christ, we can truly rest secure and know that nothing and no one will be able to shake us. Although we may wonder at times, the fact of the matter is that God is in control and He works all things together for our good!

Letting our life go into the hands of God may seem silly or impossible in the moment, but it is then that we can truly begin to understand the magnitude of God!

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. God chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. (1 Corinthians‬ ‭1‬:‭27-30‬ NIV

For God, Not For Men

Have you ever worked so hard, yet feel unappreciated? Or maybe instead of being rewarded for your efforts and good deeds; you are misunderstood, underestimated and taken for granted.

Some people are disappointed because they feel they have not fulfilled their calling in life, and stuck in a place where they cannot make use of their talent. Others worry about their future.

Whatever your situation is, and wherever you are right now, you are exactly where you need to be. It is the place or situation in which God has called you to overcome, learn and prevail. Make the best of today with what's on your hand; today is what matters. If we give in to the urges to complain where we are at life or totally give up doing the good work we do, we may loose sight of the thing that we need to do to fulfill any of our God given calling.

The Lord is watching, so let us do what we need to do today  heartily as we work for the Lord and not for men. True validation comes from the Lord and He will guide our path to fulfill the purpose He has for us.

Collosians 3:23
Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men

Rejoice Evermore

It is a good thing to rejoice in the Lord. Perhaps you have tried this, and the first time seemed to fail. Never mind, keep right on and when you cannot feel any joy, when there is no spring, and no seeming comfort and encouragement, still rejoice, and count it all joy.

Even when you fall into divers temptations, reckon it joy and delight and God will make your reckoning good. Do you suppose your Father will let you carry the banner of His victory and His gladness on to the front of the battle, and then stand back and see you captured or beaten back by the enemy? No.

The Holy Spirit will sustain you in your bold advance, and fill your heart with gladness and praise, and you will find your heart all exhilarated and refreshed by the fullness within. Lord teach me to rejoice in You, and to “rejoice evermore.”

Philippians 4:4
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

God is looking for intercessors

1 Timothy 2:1-4
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people--
for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Have you ever plead with God for the needs of other? "Intercession is about putting ourselves in other’s shoes or having sympathy with others.  But intercessions are about having the mind of God and see things through His perspective" - Oswald Chambers.

Intercession is one of the most difficult tasks for a Christian. Many of us including myself many times forget about the very essence of intercession. Sometimes we are too absorbed by the problem and we forget to fix our eyes on Jesus and then we become overwhelmed by the problems. Intercession is a duty as well as a privilege for Christian. Only by having deep relationship with God then we can know Him and His mind for the dying soul.

Jesus intercedes for us (Romans 8:34) and He calls us to intercede for others. He Himself has no limit, but He has chosen us to be the intercessors for this generation. Indeed we have part in His Salvation mission for the world. Will God say to us: “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.  So I will pour out my wrath on them and consume them with my fiery anger, bringing down on their own heads all they have done, declares the Sovereign Lord (Ezekiel 22:30).

Be Thankful for People

As a pastor, I’ve made impassioned pleas for Christ-followers to rise above our culture… to resist the temptation for the holiday season to be simply another opportunity for us to be self-focused and self-indulgent. Thanksgiving isn’t just about eating to the brink of explosion; shopping to the brink of bankruptcy; watching television to the brink of insanity. I’ve tried to make the point that Thanksgiving for a person who loves God can be so much more.

Even so, I discovered in my own life that despite what I’ve preached, I have missed a crucial element in the process of being a thankful follower of Jesus in my own life. I found that over the years I have been mostly thankful for the THINGS in my life; for food, finances, the house I have lived in, the clothes I have worn, and so on. While there’s nothing wrong with being thankful for these things, I have missed the boat on giving thanks for the biggest blessings of God in my life… PEOPLE.

Consider how empty, purposeless, and meaningless our lives would be without relationships. Relationships have shaped who we are and who we are becoming. Without exception, everyone I know has been positively influenced by other people. While it is easy to thank God for the THINGS in our lives, we should remember to be equally thankful for the PEOPLE God has placed in our lives as well!

Let me give you just one example. I am thankful for my Aunt Patty. She had suffered a brain injury when she was a small child severe enough that by the time I was born, she had become mentally disabled. But, when I was a child, she would play games and entertain me for hours. She loved me unconditionally. We would play The Beatlesrecords and pretend to be Paul McCartney and John Lennon. It was her love for music that infected my soul for the rest of my life. I thank God for her!

How about you? Who do you thank God for? Today, take a few moments and thank God for the relationships in your life. Truthfully, it can revolutionize your life.

Philippians 1:3
I thank my God every time I remember you

Living in seasons

Life is lived in season. There is a season of sowing, season of reaping, season of waiting and a season of joy. You may pray for a miracle and it may have been a deferred hope you long to see come to pass, don’t get disappointed if your answer comes through a gradual change. A steady stream of water could erode the hardest rock over time and it takes a hundred years to grow a majestic oak tree.

Probably you have been discouraged and disheartened with your own progress but the Bible shows our God is never in hurry. God took 80 years to prepare Moses including a season of 40 years in the desert. What God is doing in our lives is contrary to the popular quick success promised by the world. The world guaranteed quick success without obligation and responsibility such as ‘no money down’, ‘instant success guaranteed’ but there is no shortcut to maturity, God is more interested in our character development.

In your season of sowing, stand firm in the Lord like Joseph, though abandoned and forsaken, he continued to be faithful in every places he was at whether it was the palace or the prison. In your season of waiting, again, seek the counsel of the Lord and renew your strength through daily communion to God through the Holy Spirit, let your strength be renewed like an eagle who soars best during the storm allowing the wind the bring him higher above the storm. In your season of reaping, remember to give thanks to the Lord for He is always guiding you, loving you and developing you to your fullest God-like character.

Most of all, through all seasons, choose to trust and believe in the heart of the Lord that desires good things for us. Truly, God is good, all the time.

Psalm 86:12 ESV
I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.

Believe in God's Word

In the Bible you will find a solution for just about every problem you face in life. How often have you gone for help to a pastor or counsellor or friend, only to have them direct you back to the Scriptures? When you get sick enough, you won't argue with the doctor, you'll just take the medicine! Paul writes, 'When you received His message from us, you didn't think of our words as mere human ideas.

God's Word works, it 'continues to work in you who believe.' So don't read it and then go out and say something different; get into agreement with God. The Amplified Bible says, '...The Word of God, which is effectually at work in you who believe [exercising its superhuman power in those who adhere to and trust in and rely on it].' (1 Thessalonians 2:13 AMP).

One day an atheist said to a believer that it was quite impossible to believe in any book whose author was unknown. The believer asked him if the compiler of the multiplication table was known. 'No,' he answered. 'Then, of course, you don't accept it?' the believer asked. The skeptic replied, 'Oh, yes, I believe in it because it works well.' The believer replied, 'So does the Bible.'

The greatest investment you can make in yourself is reading your Bible.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 NLT
...You received His message... And this word continues to work in you who believe.

You Can Trust God's Timing

5/2/2015

Picture
One of the biggest mistakes we make as believers is failing to remember that God's timing rarely matches our timing. We think and plan in temporal terms, and God thinks and plans in eternal terms. What this means is we want what feels good right now, what produces immediate results, but God is willing to be patient and deliberate as He invests in us over a period of time to produce results far better and longer lasting than we can imagine.

Just as our children try to talk us into giving them what they want right away, we often try to talk God into immediately giving us what we want. He loves us even more than we love our children, and He loves us too much to give in to our pleadings. He knows something born prematurely might struggle to survive, so He waits until He knows everything is properly prepared for the arrival of our dreams.

God sees and understands what we do not see and understand. He asks us to put aside our natural tendencies to want to figure out what should happen in our lives and when it should happen. He also desires us to stop being frustrated because things do not go according to our plan, and instead to relax, enjoy the ride, and trust He is working everything out according to His timing and the wisdom of His plan.

Without trusting God, we will never experience satisfaction and enjoyment in life; we will always be striving to "make things happen" within our time line. We must remember God not only has plans for our lives, He also knows the perfect timing for each aspect of those plans. Fighting and resisting the timing of God is equivalent to fighting and resisting His will for our lives. God is working, often in ways we cannot see, to bring His plans to pass in our lives in the best possible ways. We simply need to trust Him as we wait for the arrival of our dreams.

Trust in Him You can trust that God is working on His plan for your life; He is preparing it for you and you for it. His plan may not come on your timetable, but the arrival of your dream is coming. Just have a seat (trust in Him, enter His rest), and when the time is precisely right, He'll call your name.

But I trusted in, relied on, and was confident in You, O Lord; I said, You are my God. My times are in Your hands... (‭Psalm‬ ‭31‬:‭14-15‬ AMP)

Sailing by the Heavenly Lights

4/2/2015

In defining true faith, we may say when we can see, it is not faith but reasoning.

In crossing the Atlantic by ship, I observed this very principle of faith. We could see no path upon the water or sign of the shore. And yet day by day the helmsman was in a path as exactly as if he had been following a great chalk line upon the sea. And when we came within 20 miles of land he knew where we were as surely as if he had seen it all 3,000 miles ahead.

How had we measured and marked our course? Day by day our captain had taken his instruments, and looking up to the sky had fixed his course by the sun. He was sailing by the heavenly lights, not the earthly lights. So faith looks up and sails on, by God's great Sun, not seeing one shoreline or earthly lighthouse or path upon the way. Often our steps seem to lead into utter uncertainty or even darkness and disaster. But He opens the way, making our midnight hours the very gates of day.

Let us go forth this day, not knowing, yet trusting.

Hebrews 11:8
By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.

Come into the presence of your King

Picture
Children come before your King

With songs of jubilant praise

For I know the look of sadness upon your face

You cry out and think that I do not hear thee

But I am with you holding your hands

Can you not see?

Can you not hear my voice calling as the wind?

Can you not feel the sweet caress of my hand as I take yours into my own?

For I am not taking you into the unknown

Unknown to you, but not to me

Sleep free, sleep easy,

Fear not, want not

For I am with thee

I shall be with you until the end of days

The end is drawing near

Do not count your days
