Seeking and hearing from the Lord

“The heavens declare the glory of God,” the Psalmist wrote. “The skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.” The Creator speaks through His creation.

You can hear Him too, if you’ll stop what you’re doing and listen. A quiet spot in nature is best, but if that’s not possible, a view of a tree, a few plants, or even a patch of sky will do.

Switch off your phone. Forget your work. Forget the mess. Put all other thoughts aside, and give God your full attention. Block out everything in your vision that is manmade, and concentrate on something that God made—a flower, a tree, a bird, a butterfly, a cloud, a pond or stream, the breeze. …

Imagine the love and care that God put into creating that single thing. Then multiply that by all the others like it in the world. What does that tell you about God’s love and care for you? Doesn’t that give you a sense of peace and well-being?

Take a few long, deep breaths. Relax, soak in God’s love, take in the view, and listen as God reveals more of His truths.

Romans 1:20 ESV – For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Psalm 46:10 ESV – “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Unchanging values with changing times

It always amazes me how some of the small innovations can build major civilisations and they remain vital today as much as thousands of years ago. Nail is one of those small but yet powerful little things that build those civilisation thought it was only mechanised in between 1790 and 1820.

Ancient Rome had nails; they use nails to crucify people. The nail never change its value nor objective with time. The simple nail remains with its core value to hold two pieces of wood structures firmly just as the as love of Christ holds its core value upholding us as His children. The one true objective of Christ love is grants us the free gift of salvation and it assurance remains firm; it never changes.  It has not change in its core values and it has been around since the beginning of time.

Lamentations 3:22-23
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever

The blessedness of Faith

Let us think for a moment of the blessedness of faith. Our own littleness and nothingness sometimes becomes bondage. We are so small in our own eyes we dare not claim God's mighty promises. We say: "If I could be sure I was in God's will I could trust."This is all wrong.

Self-consciousness is a great barrier to faith. Get your eyes on Him and Him alone. Not on your faith, but on the Author of your faith; not with a half look, but with a steadfast, prolonged look, with a true heart and fixedness of purpose that knows no faltering, no parleying with the enemy and not a shadow of fear. When you become fearful you are almost sure to fail.

Travelers who have crossed the Alps know how dangerous those mountain passes are, how narrow the foothold, how deep the rocky ravines. They know how necessary to safety it is that they look up continually. One downward glance into the dizzying depths might be fatal. So if we would surmount the heights of faith we must look up-look up. Take your eyes off yourself, off surrounding circumstances, off means, off gifts, and turn them to the Great Giver, our Lord Jesus Christ.

Genesis 13:14
The LORD said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, "Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west

God keeps the feet of His saints

The way is slippery and our feet are feeble, but the Lord will keep our feet. If we give ourselves up by obedient faith to be His holy ones.
  • He will Himself be our guardian.
  • Not only will He charge His angels to keep us, but He Himself will preserve our goings.
  • He will keep our feet from falling so that we do not defile our garments, wound our souls, and cause the enemy to blaspheme.
  • He will keep our feet from wandering so that we do not go into paths of error, or ways of folly, or courses of the world's custom.
  • He will keep our feet from swelling through weariness, or blistering because of the roughness and length of the way.
  • He will keep our feet from wounding: our shoes shall be iron and brass so that even though we tread on the edge of the sword, or on deadly serpents, we shall not bleed or be poisoned.
  • He will also pluck our feet out of the net. We shall not be entangled by the deceit of our malicious and crafty foes.

With such a promise as this, let us run without weariness and walk without fear. He who keeps our feet will do it effectually.

1 Samuel 2:9
He will keep the feet of his saints.

- Writing of Charles Spurgeon

A defining moment to look forward to

Have you ever wondered how a conversation between a seed and a farmer will go about? Perhaps it may start with the seed complaining to the farmer on how he has placed the seed in such damp dirty soil. The seed argues that there is no comfort nor warmth and even assurance of the Farmer’s good intention of making it to grow.

Before the seed could finish its sentence, the farmer shoved more dirt and the seed ended up being buried underneath the soil where it is dark, gloomy and hopeless. The seed did not understand why and it struggled to get out. The farmer however, knew that the seed will never grow or achieve its potential if it is placed outside of the soil under the comfort of the sun.

Doesn’t this sound like the many conversations we have with God? “This is uncomfortable,” “this is not fair”, “why did you do that, God?”

As the way of the farmer’s thought is different from the seed, it is his yearning to see the seed flourish as it is made to. Your darkest hours in the ‘damp dirty soil’ could just be your defining moment where your purpose for the Kingdom of Heaven is further refined. When you emerge out of the soil, it will for a glorious purpose. Let this be a reason for us to give the Lord praise instead of our murmuring.

Isaiah 55:9
As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater.
