People Pleasers

Paul writes in Galatians 1:10: “Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ. “

Paul gave an example of a Chris-centred life in Ephesians- we should not focus on pleasing people but pleasing God.  From the moment Paul started following Christ, he endeavoured to align what he did with Christ- in this he became a servant of Christ.

The biggest, most challenging and most rewarding life decisions that I have made did not come out of a desire to please my family, friends or pastors. I wanted to please God. As a result, these decisions tested relationship and brought about new ones. But it was when I made these decisions out of a heart to please Him that my character grew.

When we let go of our old lives and seek a new life in Christ (Ephesians 4:17-24), our focus no-longer lingers on pleasing man but on God instead. Does life get tough? Yes but in these times we must stick to being obedient and not let our focus waver.

1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Great exploits!

The world recognizes people like Lady Gaga, Mother Theresa, Jamie Oliver, Barack Obama, Gerald Butler, Albert Einstein, Lance Amstrong, etc, etc. People are recognized for their intelligence, talents, achievements, looks, fame or notoriety and so on. And the media happily capitalize on shows like the Voice, Australia's got Talent and the Olympics.

Yet, Jesus not only was recognized by the world, but He was the only one which the world could not contain!!!

At times, we ourselves may wonder what is the significance of our life and our contribution to this world. We have dreams of success, of leaving a legacy, of making an impact...

Take heart! God's heart for us big! His thoughts are to propsper us, to gives a future and a hope. The word of God declares that those who KNOW their God will do great exploits! God promises we will surely do even greater things that Jesus Himself did! Exploits far beyond what this temporary world we see can contain!

Dan 11: 32 but the people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits [for God].

John 21:25 And there are also many other things which Jesus did. If they should be all recorded one by one [in detail], I suppose that even the world itself could not contain (have room for) the books that would be written.

John 14:12 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, if anyone steadfastly believes in Me, he will himself be able to do the things that I do; and he will do even greater things than these, because I go to the Father.

Reflect on His Love

For the past week, I've been wondering what I should write about. The bible is full of answers and truths wrapped up in parables, waiting to be unveiled by the thirsty disciple of Christ. There are simply no limits to what can be learnt from the bible.

But i'm not here today to "preach"- you can do that yourself. After all, the High Priest lives in you-"ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find" (Matthew 7:7) .

What I do encourage you to do today however, is to reflect on this simple yet profound truth written all over the bible: Jesus Loves You.

His love for you is deep. Deeper than you can ever imagine. It is personal. He does not give you some mass produced commercial solutions.

What bothers you, bothers Him to no end. Suffered an injustice? He feels angry for your behalf! In fact, you don't need to take revenge or feel bitter- Vengeance is His (Romans 12:19). Feeling ashamed of yourself? He's telling you that in Him, there is now no more condemnation- he remembers your sins no more (Romans 8:1)! Just run back to Him, and remember His works at the Calvary for no reason other than He Loves Us.

Our journey with Christ is, as it is, a journey. But before you embark on that journey, a daily reflection of His Love for you personally is crucial. This is what empowers you, what heals you. This is the substance of what Christianity is really about.

So, before you go "alright" and hit the 'X' button on your browser, just reflect on this and let this sink in :

"I am the disciple whom Jesus loves. Jesus loves ME, (Insert your name here)!"

And remember, unlike the world, God's words are not empty - His words and promises shall not return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11). He means it when He say "I Love you". Why wouldn't He? He made you, and numbers every single hair on your head (Matthew 10:30)!

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Littleness Matters

12/6/2012

Littleness doesn’t mean much in today’s society. They are deemed insignificant, of no influence and a waste of time.

God however, values the little things.  Nothing is too small for HIM; HE is able to transform the ‘little and insignificant’ to accomplish HIS purposes in our lives and others.

Charles Spurgeon, the 19th century preacher wrote, “Let the least among men seek of God a blessing upon his littleness. Little faith is a blessed faith and trembling hope is a blessed hope. No mother will overlook her child because it is little. The smaller it is, the tenderly does she nurse it.”

Littleness matters to God. HE created and bought all creations, small and great with the same precious blood. Little and great ones are both blessed.

So the next time you feel that little is all you have to give, do not despair. Choose to believe that God is able to use the little we offer to accomplish all the good purposes HE has for our life and others.

Psalm 115:13
He will bless those who fear the LORD--small and great alike.

One Hope

My history teacher once told us a story that has always stuck with me.

He said in the NAZI concentration camp, there was a group of prisoners of war who continued to survive despite the beatings and torture, whose spirit  couldn’t be broken. They were soldiers. The NAZIs showed them the drawings of a plan for new living quarters for the men. They dug trenches and shovelled and worked hard even though they were so malnourished and weak. They managed to get the land cleared in less than a week. At the end of that week, the NAZIs told them there was never an intention to build and their next job was to shovel all the sand back into the holes they had dug up.

This job was never completed and all but a handful of these ex-soldiers died. They had lost hope.

“Where there is no  vision, the people perish.”Proverbs 29:18

Today is the start of a new week. If you are feeling tired and drained already, or maybe you’re going through a dry season… Be Inspired!! We have a hope in Christ! He is going to do something in you and through you today, this week, if you are willing!

Isaiah 40:31
But those who HOPE in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Prayer and Seeds

When I was a child I would often, in the quiet of the night, talk with God. I never used to know if He was actually there so the spilling of all these thoughts would end with an embarrassed “if you’re really there”. Looking back now I realised that my words were actually prayers. I believed in faith that someone was listening and hearing what I was saying despite not knowing if anyone was.

When children pray it is powerful- Why? They don’t complicate the simple. As we grow we see more of the world and with this we can grow a worldly mindset that limits the truth of Christ.

Jesus said that if you have the faith the size of a mustard seed you could tell the mountains to throw themselves into the sea (Matthew 17:20). Your prayer to God doesn’t need to be full of big words and exhausted sentences. What it does need to be is honest. Be bold and pray prayers that your inner-child would pray. Dare to believe that God hangs on your every word- He is the God who answers prayers... Even if you only have the smallest seed of faith.

Matthew 17:20
He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move.Nothing will be impossible for you.”

The Soldier

7/6/2012

Across the world 7o'clock news, we often see people dressed in shades of greens and browns, stomping around in boots and lugging around rifles. These are soldiers representing a nation's army. They are tasked with the responsibility of protecting and securing a country, keeping the peace of its people and attacking when danger threatens its people.

Soldiers differ from civilians in many ways. Soldiers spend most of their time in disciplined training exercises in preparation for emergency. Soldiers need to be trained, watchful, prepared, able, equipped and ready at any notice. And as a soldier there is a requirement for to sacrifice ones life when the need arises.

Although we may not be dressed in greens and browns and trudging about our homes in steel cap boots, we too are chosen soldiers working under the authority of the Highest Power, to protect, secure and fight for the people in our spheres. We do this by allowing Christ Kingdom's influence of power and love through us to come into contact with them!

2 Tim 2:4 No soldier when in service gets entangled in the enterprises of [civilian] life; his aim is to satisfy and please the one who enlisted him.

2 Tim 2:21 So whoever cleanses himself [from what is ignoble and unclean, who separates himself from contact with contaminating and corrupting influences] will [then himself] be a vessel set apart and useful for honorable and noble purposes, consecrated and profitable to the Master, fit and ready for any good work.

Have you woken up early

Just before sunrise

Still dark and quiet..

Step outside of yourself...

Afresh... into yet another day?

With a changed, expectant heart

With the innocence of a perceiving child

Seeking, yearning

for answers, comfort and peace that this world cant give

Called

Reflecting on being a Christian. One word that comes to mind is ‘called’.

Like a child who is tenderly called by his mother in his hour of distress, the response is simply follow. As a child, sometimes this ‘following’ is like a run and sometimes it’s a crawl. Though my response can be wavering. The call is steady, continually screaming out grace. No matter where I am, no matter what has happened and no matter what the future holds.

God’s call comes! “Come my child, restoration is found here. Rest now, be built, be healed, be restored! Today!” A new creation is waiting to breakout in me, for the whole world.

For the whole world? Yes, that is where the call is directed. Unto all the world (Matt 24:14) “...for the healing of the nations” (Rev 22:2).

Like a child come before my Lord again. Restored! Now I stand like a warrior who dreams for the whole world, knowing no matter what: I know where I stand! What my God has done! And where my future is going!

Let Your heart be ours.

Secrets you were meant to discover...

Have you ever read the Bible and felt nothing? Or maybe fallen asleep while reading the Bible and then feeling guilty about it after? Let me inspire you to read as never before…

I think the Word of God is like a great big book of secrets. Secrets that if we gloss over on surface level reveals nothing. But the more you study and think of it, the more you realise how much depth there is. It’s like one of those mines that the more you dig, the more you find and the deeper you delve the rarer the treasure! You wouldn't display your precious goods where someone else would easily find it, would you?

And He said to them, “Be careful what you are hearing. The measure you give will be the measure that comes back to you – and more will be given to you who hear”.       Mark 4:24

Hearing doesn’t just mean physically hearing, but it can also mean tuning our internal ears towards God’s voice (through the Word). The more we ‘hear’, the more secrets will be entrusted to us! God wants us to hunger and thirst after Him and to search for Him so that He can show us His deepest secrets!

For there is nothing hidden except to be revealed, nor is anything kept secret except in order that it may be made known.      Mark 4:22

What secrets is God wanting to share with you TODAY?
