Paul was speaking to a very religious bunch of people and observed a statue or idol labelled "To an Unknown God"(Acts 17:23). He used this as a platform to share about the God that he knew intimately.
What he was going to share was going to challenge what they believe and what they understand a god to be like… He flipped their worlds upside-down! He shared that the Lord of the heavens doesn't live in a temple built by man, nor does he rely on humans to serve him like other gods… But he is creator and sustainer and HE gives us "life and breath and everything else."(Acts 17:25).
He goes on and explains why God did this: God has created us and continues to provide for us so that we are able to be in relation with him.
Would you believe me if I told you right now, in this moment, God is with you? That He is looking at you? That He is hearing every thought that you are thinking and counting the breaths that you take? Grandparent, parent, sister, brother, daughter, son… Prostitute, drug dealer, victim of abuse… It doesn’t matter, its all the same…. God isn't far from you.
Let this year be the year that you walk in the revelation that God is near to you... through whatever you face and whatever you experience... He isn't far from you.
