After battling with leukaemia, the pianist Roger Bennett passed away peacefully in 2007. In one of his notes, he wrote, “the enemy stalks us exactly the way the Bible describes, as a roaring lion. He hides in the bushes waiting for any sign of weakness. Then he strikes. He didn’t strike me physically but he struck the more critical part – my joy, confidence and hope. Everytime I tried to look on the bright side, I ended up with countless doubt planted by the enemy. I tried to sleep but sleep was nowhere near. I tried to lose myself in the Bible, but the words blurred and I couldn’t make sense of them.”
But then,
Bennett thought of Paul and Silas during their time in the prison. “They didn’t despair. They sang praises and that became their weapon. I started to sing the old songs I knew, it wasn’t a great performance but my joy and hope sprouted back. It was the most powerful blessings I needed at that very moment. ”
The enemy lurks and prey at every weaknesses we have. Don’t let down our guard; when words seem to blur, we still can lift our voices in praise and worship.
Psalm 71:8
My mouth is filled with your praise, declaring your splendor all day long.
But then,
