In the Bible, we read how Abraham crossed over into the ‘Promised Land’ from an idolatrous place and he entered the realm that enabled him to have a personal intimate walk with God. Abraham left his past behind and entered a new life of spiritual truth; a profound inner transformation that strengthened him during all the trials he had to endure during his walk to the ‘Promise Land’.
Abraham’s life was not free from obstacles and troubles after he crossed over and left his past behind. His wife Sarah was held in the King’s harem when he fled to Egypt during a famine season then he was promised a child but Sarah remained barren till her old age. Furthermore he faltered when he followed Sarah’s advice to lay with Hagar and he had to send Ishmael, the son whom he loved to the desert with Hagar and last but not least, Abraham had to face the greatest test of faith when he had to sacrifice Isaac, the promised son whom he and Sarah had waited thirteen years for. Now you know why this great man of faith is called the ‘Father’ of Faith.
In this brand new year, we are called to bear our daily crosses and respond with a new faith to whatever that may come our way. Through HIS strength, we will also be known as those who ‘crossed over’, having held firm to all the great promises that God has for us.
Philippians 4:12-13
I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
