Have you ever gotten a handful of sand and sifted it through your fingers? It probably never occurred to you to try and count those grains of sand. It would be next to impossible and would seem ridiculous to do so. However, that’s what God promised Abraham that his descendants will be as numerous as the sand on the seashore. God know how much sand is on the seashore, He knows every grain of sand on this earth. After all He created it. Abraham could have laughed it off and told God that there was no way that could ever happen. No, Abraham did not do that; after all God had already enabled Sarah conceive a son in their old age.
When we hear God, at times we stare in disbelief. No God, that can’t be right. No God, that’s impossible. God, are you talking about me? I can’t do that. We second guess God. We doubt Him because we doubt ourselves and our own abilities. We look at our circumstances. We fail to look to God. The Lord created each one of us. He knows our thoughts, our words and our actions even before we know it ourselves. He knows how long we will live on this earth. He knew us even before the world began. He has amazing plans and promises for your life. Abraham was a man of great faith. We can learn from him. God please increase our faith.
Genesis 22:17
I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies.
Psalm 139:13-14, 16-18
For You formed my inward parts; you wove me in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well…Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; and in Your book were all written the days that were ordained for me, when as yet there was not one of them. How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.
