Some symptoms of depression may include the feeling of hopelessness, deep sense of worthlessness, lost of purpose and enthusiasm for life. Elijah the prophet displayed such despondency in the Bible.
After defeating the prophets of Baal, Jezebel sent Elijah a death threat and Elijah ran for his life. His hope was gone; he even prayed to God that he might die (1 King 19:4). What did God do? God did not rebuke Elijah in his deep despondency, God sent angel to provide for Elijah’s needs. God then renewed Elijah’s vision by giving him a new purpose and mission. Lastly, God reminded Elijah that he wasn’t alone.
In this season of joy, let’s remind our loved ones and ourselves that God is not a God who loves to rebuke our wrongs. He desires to lead us to a new place of renewed goal or vision of His plans in your life. You too are not alone. As He promised Elijah, His promises also stand for you so celebrate this season of joy with a renewed hope and faith.
1 King 19: 18
Yet I reserve seven thousand in Israel—all whose knees have not bowed down to Baal and whose mouths have not kissed him.
