Easy to say but who is able to be our place of refuge? My logic says, “If I place my trust in people, they will eventually let me down, break their promises or walk away. I may end up disappointed, hurt and bitter.”
“Place my trust in God?” I can’t help but struggle on that thought. Sometimes I just question God and HIS motives – “Does HE really care or maybe HE wants to punish me this time?”
I know I’m at the wrong if I dwell on the thought above. Such attitudes are an attempt to humanize God. So in my moment of vulnerability, I view God through my human eyes.
Just because most human are not trustworthy, we should not view God with similar trait. Let’s be reminded that God is not like us, HE delights in us and that HE is for us, not against us.
God wants to be your place of refuge. You will be safe as this is HIS promise to you:
Psalm 91: 1 - 7
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty... He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
