What I found more entertaining was watching the parents on the sidelines. There was yelling, screaming, waving, fist pumping and even running going on!
What was clear to me was that each parent was trying to encourage, cheer and support their child to keep going at a goal. Tired as they were, on hearing the encouragement of their parents, the boys tried just a little bit harder, ran a little bit farther and put in the extra effort!
If parents can so be so supportive and encouraging of their child in a game, how much more incredibly so is our Heavenly Father there for us as we run the race of our lives! He constantly speaks His life-giving words, He has given us His Spirit to strengthen us, and best of all, He has given us victory through Christ!
Hebrews 12:1, 2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1, 2 NIV)
