David knew he needs to seek the Lord for forgiveness and restoration. Life outside God’s loving embrace is a life David could not imagine.
David knew God is different; a man tend to seek justice but God would be merciful. Only God could give David the compassion that he so desperately need and restore him from the crippling guilt and sin in his life. He voiced it in 1 Chronicles 21:13 “Let me fall into the hands of the LORD, for his mercy is very great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.”
Sometimes we need to be rescued from ourselves as much as from our enemies. When we can’t live with our own selves for the guilt of our mistakes and past, there is one person we can turn to for consolation and restoration; God himself.
Our only answer lies in humbling ourselves before Him and He will turn every bad consequences of our sin towards our good.
Psalm 145:8-9
The Lord is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The Lord is good to all; He has compassion on all He has made.
