Our hearts can carry so much hurt and pain. In them, we can hold moments that are charged with emotion for years, decades even. Sadly, when we look back we are very quick to recall the bad experiences and we feel the twang all over again. We re-live those moments because we carried them all this time, unresolved and ready for the enemy to use to try and put us in a corner or defeat.
Our hearts carry more than we think. When I found Christ I had no idea how many moments of hurt and pain I was carrying. I couldn't bare it. Thankfully he rescued me.
So wonderfully and supernaturally, when we come to God with a heart so heavy, bruised, battered, abused, bleeding or just tired, he can and will give us a new one.
In Psalm 51:10 David asks God to create a clean heart in him and renew a steadfast spirit within him. Thomas Nelson writes: "This verse is significant in two areas, repentance and creation. The verb translated create is the same one use in Genesis 1:1 and refers to what only God can do."
David had a troubled heart of his own but he knew that the only person that could do anything with it was God. God and God alone can restore and revive your heart.
Create in me a clean heart O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
