It is a truthful description of a human nature; wanting something we cant have. How do we then deal with this never-ending dilemma and stay grateful and joyful in all circumstances?
The antidote to this is voiced by Paul in Philippians 4:11 – 13, “… for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” Paul’s response displays his true priority in life; Paul is certain no circumstances could be bigger than God and he understood that his contentment was not based on his circumstances. Contentment is something that we have to learn and it is not a process that could happen overnight.
As our relationship with God develops through time and trials, we learn to trust the sovereignty of God’s power and less in our own strength. It is after all is God who gives the strength to persevere in all circumstances and situations.
