All the jobs that I have revolve around children. Almost 7 days a week I get to have a laugh and chill out with them. But on other occasions I have to play the mediator between petty or serious arguments. During this time I have to come to a conclusion that resolves the situation and reconcile the two parties. This process can be tiring; especially when you have two stubborn and persistent children who keep breaking the rules!
Before Christ, God’s chosen people had a mediator to help them when they did something wrong. Once a year the High Priest would make a sacrifice to atone or apologise for the sins of the people. During the year the people would also have to make various sacrifices that were pleasing to God.
Praise God for Jesus! He stood as our mediator so we no longer have to make offerings and sacrifices to make us right before God. He is the High Priest who made the ultimate sacrifice for humanity to be in right standing with God- he sacrificed His life.
Hebrews 4:14-16
“Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”
