Everyone has their own price and weaknesses. The devil knows this all too well and if we were to rely on our own strength, failure is inevitable. After David committed an adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband, God firmly disciplined him and David repented. He penned Psalm 51 in repentance and prayed, “Make me hear joy and gladness, that the bones You have broken may rejoice” (Ps. 51:8).
The injuries David suffered were spiritual and David lamented God’s chastening crushed him like broken bones yet David trusted that the Lord Himself could both repair his brokenness and bring him gladness and God restored David. In our own failures and sin, it is comforting to know God’s loving kindness will not fail and He loves us enough to pursue us faithfully and restore us to wholeness.
Psalm 51: 1 – 2
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin.
