The disciples were in the boat being tossed about by the waves and the storm. Jesus came toward them. They were afraid, “It’s a ghost,” they exclaimed in fear. Jesus said to them, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” Fear can grip us in troubled times. We may feel like we are be tossed about by the storm that is happening in our lives, not knowing which way to turn or what to do. Even when God shows up, we don’t always recognise Him. We do not realise or remember that He is with us in the storm.
He is the God who has command over all storms of life. He is no ghost. He is our God, telling us to take courage and to trust in Him and not to look at our circumstances. When Peter looked to Jesus all he wanted to do was to get out of the boat, he wanted to be close to Jesus. He had forgotten about the storm. Peter walked on water.
It was only when Peter took his focus off Jesus did he start to question what he was doing and began to sink. Jesus was there to pull Him out of the water. When we take our eyes off God and look at our situation, we also start to sink. It is when we focus our eyes on him that we are able to rise above it all and walk on water.
Nothing is impossible in Him. He is the Lord over the storm. Even when we feel like we are sinking, He is always there to pull us through. You can overcome whatever life throws at you, because God is there helping you to walk through it.
Matthew 14:26-27
Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”
Luke 1:37
For nothing is impossible with God.
