He recounts the biblical incident where David and his army returns to their homeland only to find that his homeland has been invaded- and everyone's wives, sons, daughters have been taken captive! His family is gone and his people spoke of stoning him because they were in grieve.
Pause for one moment and imagine yourself to be David. If this were to happen to you, what would you have done? Would your first reaction be to grieve and to lash out at God? Asking Him why He allowed this to happen? Or sink into depression and lamenting that life is not worth living anymore?
I know what my first reaction would most likely be... and it's understandable. But its not helpful. I'll only be victimizing myself, and achieve nothing but becoming battered and hurt.
What David did however (see 1 Samuel 30), was admirable and epitomizes true worship. In spite of his grief, he encouraged himself in the Lord and turned to God, asking Him what I thought was the most logical question in that context: "Should I pursue the troops?" He waited for God to answer and as you all know, David pursued the troops under God's direction, trusting in Him and returned victorious.
Is life not like this? God did not promise us a life of bed and roses but that we will face trials and tribulations in this life. Why wouldn't we? After all, we are in this world but not of the world. The good news however, is that God wants a relationship so intimate with you that in all things you seek His counsel. The Lord Almighty who created heaven and earth wants to be your Father. Question is, would you allow Him into your heart?
Psalms 91:4
He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
